Cooking sake is an alcoholic Japanese rice wine for cooking with 13.5% alcohol, which gives various dishes a fine, aromatic, and slightly sweet note. It is traditionally used in Japanese cuisine to round off the flavor of meat, fish, vegetables, and sauces.

The cooking sake is particularly suitable for marinades, teriyaki sauces, soups, stir-fries, and braised dishes. When heated, some of the alcohol may evaporate, though depending on the preparation, residual alcohol may remain in the dish.
